Flyers have always been one of the most effective ways to promote events, businesses, or important announcements. Even today, when everything is digital, flyers still work because they quickly grab people’s attention. They are simple, bold, and easy to share - online or offline.
Whether it’s a promotional sale, a workshop, a school event, or a restaurant special menu, a flyer helps present information clearly in just a few seconds.
When I first started promoting my website, I didn’t know much about designing. But Canva made everything easy with its clean dashboard and ready-made flyer templates. The best part is that you don’t need graphic design experience.
Canva allows you to drag, drop, and customize anything. In this guide, you’ll learn how to make a flyer in Canva using simple steps and practical tips from my personal experience. By the end, you’ll be ready to create flyers for yourself, your business, or even for clients.

What Are Flyers and Why Are They Useful?
Flyers are small promotional designs that share key information quickly. They usually include a headline, images, short text, and a call to action.
Flyers are used everywhere - shops, coaching centers, gyms, schools, events, real estate listings, restaurants, and even on social media. Their big advantage is that they can be printed or shared digitally.
A clean flyer tells your story without overwhelming the reader. Canva’s flyer templates also make it easy for beginners to design beautiful layouts in minutes.
You simply choose a design, adjust the colors, edit the text, and your flyer is ready to download. Flyers remain effective because they focus on one clear message and immediately guide the audience toward taking action.
Below, I have added some examples of flyers that you can create on Canva - business flyer, event flyer, hiring flyer and wedding invitation flyer. You can find many theme-based flyer templates on Canva.

How to Make a Flyer in Canva Step-by-Step
Check out the below mentioned steps to create flyers in Canva.
Step 1: Create a Free Canva Account
To begin, visit Canva.com and create a free account using your email or Google login. Canva’s free plan gives you access to hundreds of flyer templates, fonts, and design tools.
Once you log in, the dashboard displays different categories like presentations, posters, social media posts, business cards, and more. Canva’s interface is simple, clean, and perfect for beginners. You can explore templates and elements without feeling confused.
If you plan to offer flyer design as a paid service, subscribing to Canva Pro is optional but helpful. For now, the free version works perfectly to learn the basics. After logging in, you’re ready to search for flyer templates and start designing.
Step 2: Search for Flyer Templates
Once you’re inside the Canva dashboard, use the search bar at the top and type “Flyer.” You’ll see thousands of templates for various industries - real estate, gyms, restaurant menus, beauty salons, school events, sales promotions, product launches, travel deals, and more.
Before choosing a template, click to preview it. You can explore both free and premium designs. If you want to make flyers in Canva for free, go with the free flyers templates.
For example, if I'm making a business flyer, I will choose clean and modern templates. For festive promotions, I will go for bright and bold styles.
In the above screenshot, you can see that I've searched for the term "Christmas flyer" under Templates. Canva will now offer hundreds of flyer templates related to my searched term. Now, I'll select a flyer that fits my requirement.
Once you find a template that matches your message, click Customize this template to begin editing. Every element inside the template can be changed, which gives you complete creative control.
After selecting a template, you need to select a paper type from these options - Standard, Premium and Deluxe. After selecting a paper type, click on the button - Customize this template.
In the next step, we'll customize our flyer template as per our requirement.
Step 3: Customize the Flyer Design
This is where the real fun begins. In Step 2, we selected our flyer template and click the Customize this template button. This opens the design editor where you can start personalizing your flyer.
See the screenshot below.
Canva’s editor is simple to use, just click on any element to edit it. Change the text, adjust the colors, replace images, modify shapes, or rearrange layouts.
You can edit anything - text, colors, backgrounds, images, shapes, and more. Start by updating the headline because it is the first thing people notice. Your headline should be short, bold, and clear.
You can edit:
- Text: Modify headings, subheadings, and body text.
- Fonts: Use clear, readable fonts. Canva offers hundreds of free options.
- Colors: Choose a color scheme that matches your brand or theme.
- Images: Upload your own photos or use Canva’s stock images.
- Icons & Shapes: Add visual elements to make your flyer more engaging.
- Backgrounds: Apply solid colors, gradients, or textures.
Take your time to experiment. Canva also allows you to duplicate pages, undo mistakes, and align elements perfectly with smart guides. If you're designing for a client, ask them for their brand colors and logos so the flyer looks more professional.
To edit any elements of a flyer template, select the element and use the tool bar to make changes as per your need.
For example, to edit the headline, select it and make use of the tool bar as shown above to apply font style, font size, font color, bold, italic, underline, letter spacing, and more. Similarly, you can edit other text elements present on your flyer template.
In the screenshot above, you can see that I have added a new text "Let's Celebrate" above the headline. I have also changed the font style & font size of the headline "CHRISTMAS PARTY" and also its color. These changes are made using the Canva toolbar.
Next, I have added two lines, above and below the date "25 DEC 2026". You can add any shapes (square, rectangle, circle) include lines from the Elements tab on the left of the Canva editor.
Next, I have added a rectangular shape from the Elements tab and added my website name inside it. To add text in a shape, just double click inside it and you would be able to enter text.
Step 4: Add Photos, Icons & Graphics
Good visuals instantly make your flyer stand out. Canva gives you access to millions of images, icons, illustrations, and shapes that you can use to improve your design.
For example, if you’re making a flyer for a real estate listing, you can add house photos, price tags, and icons for bedrooms or bathrooms. For a business sale flyer, you can include discount icons, product images, and attractive background patterns.
Personally, I always try to use high-quality visuals because they make the flyer look more professional and trustworthy.
To add visuals, use the Elements tab on the left side. Type keywords like “sale icon,” “restaurant food,” “fitness,” “travel,” or whatever matches your theme. Click any graphic to add it to your design, then drag and resize it however you like.
In the above screenshot, you can see that I have removed the existing background and replaced it with a new background based on Christmas theme.
To add a Christmas theme background, go to Elements tab and search for the term "Christmas background" and press Enter. Canva will offer lots of background based on your search term. Select one that you like the most to add it to your design.
Please note that Canva also allows you to apply image filters, adjust transparency, crop photos, and even remove backgrounds if you’re using Canva Pro.
Remember:
- Use visuals that support the message.
- Don’t overcrowd the flyer.
- Maintain good spacing for easy reading.
Step 5: Add Contact Details & Call-to-Action
This is one of the most important steps when learning how to make a flyer in Canva. A flyer must guide readers toward an action, whether it’s visiting a website, booking an appointment, calling a number, or attending an event.
I’ve seen many beginner designers create beautiful flyers but forget to include essential details like phone numbers, website links, or location. Without this information, the flyer loses its purpose.
Your flyer should include:
- Contact number
- Email address
- Website or landing page
- Social media handles
- Event location or venue
- QR code (optional but useful)
To add a call-to-action (CTA), use phrases like:
- “Register Now”
- “Call Today”
- “Visit Our Website”
- “Limited Offer”
- “Join the Workshop”
- “Book Your Spot”
CTAs increase engagement and help your audience know what to do next.
If you’re promoting a service or online business, you can use Canva’s QR Code tool to link directly to your website or sales page. This makes your flyer more modern and interactive. Clear contact information boosts trust and improves conversions.
Step 6: Download or Share Your Flyer
Once your flyer is ready, click Share or Download at the top right corner. Canva gives you multiple file formats such as PNG, JPG, and PDF.
If you want to print your flyer, choose PDF Print for the best quality. For online sharing, like posting on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, or email, PNG works perfectly. I often download my flyers in both PDF and PNG formats so I can use them across different platforms.
Canva also allows you to share your flyer directly using a link or by giving access to team members. If you're working with clients, you can send them a view-only link so they can check and approve the design before printing.
One feature I love is the “Resize” tool (Canva Pro), which instantly converts your flyer into other formats like posters, social media posts, or banner ads. This saves hours of redesigning work and ensures visual consistency across platforms.
After downloading, you can print multiple copies or share the digital version online. Flyers are extremely flexible, and Canva ensures that your final output is crisp, vibrant, and ready to use.
How to Print Flyers Using Canva PDF Print
Canva PDF Print is not just about downloading a printable file. Canva also allows users to print flyers directly through Canva and get them delivered to their home or office address.
This feature is extremely helpful if you don’t want the hassle of finding a local print shop or worrying about print quality. I’ve personally explored this option when I needed clean, professional prints without spending time coordinating with printers.
Once your flyer design is complete, click the Share or Print with Canva option. Canva will guide you through the printing process. You can choose the paper quality, finish (matte or glossy), and flyer size. Canva handles the entire printing process for you, from production to packaging.
Canva charges a printing and delivery fee, which depends on your location, paper type, and quantity. Flyers printed through Canva are delivered directly to your residential or business address. This makes it very convenient, especially for small business owners, event organizers, or anyone printing flyers regularly.
There are also quantity limits you should know about. Canva requires users to order a minimum of 25 flyers and allows a maximum order of up to 1,000 flyers in one go.
Canva PDF Print with home delivery is a time-saving solution that offers reliable quality, professional finishing, and doorstep delivery.
Tips for Creating the Perfect Flyer in Canva
Even though Canva makes designing very easy, a few simple tips can help you create high-quality, professional flyers. Over the years, I’ve learned that the structure and clarity of your flyer matter more than adding too many elements. Here are some useful tips:
- Keep your layout simple and clean
- Use readable fonts with proper hierarchy
- Choose high-quality images
- Maintain enough white space
- Stick to 2–3 colors
- Focus on one main message
