About Business Cards
A business card is a small, pocket-sized card that includes your essential business details like your name, company, contact information, website, and sometimes your logo or social media handles.
Even in today’s digital world, business cards remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to introduce yourself and your business. Whether you’re attending a networking event, meeting clients, or running an online brand, a business card acts as your mini-advertisement.
Types of Business Cards
When you think of business cards, you might imagine the classic rectangular design—but there are actually many types you can explore:
- Standard Business Card – Simple and professional; ideal for most industries.
- Square Business Card – Modern and eye-catching; perfect for creatives and influencers.
- Folded Business Card – Offers more space for branding and services.
- Die-Cut Business Card – Shaped cards (like circles or custom cuts) that stand out instantly.
- Digital Business Card (eCard) – A scannable or clickable design you can share online or via QR code.
When I first started freelancing, I made a digital business card in Canva with a QR code linking to my portfolio - it was a game-changer during virtual meetings. Please note that you can also create a QR code in Canva for your blog or any other online business.
How to Make a Business Card in Canva?
Follow these easy steps to design your professional-looking business card in Canva.
Step 1: Search for Business Card templates in Canva
Go to Canva.com and open your Canva account. If you don’t have an account, sign up and create a free Canva account in just a few seconds. Once you enter your credentials, the Canva homepage will open.
Type “Business Card” into the search bar and press Enter. Please see the screenshot below.
Hundreds of templates will appear on your screen, displaying different styles and business themes. You’ll find here thousands of templates for different professions—photographers, bloggers, real estate agents, coaches, and more.

Please note that you can also create a unique, customized business card by clicking “Create a blank Business Card”. See the above screenshot.
Step 2: Choose a Template
Choose the template that meets your requirements. Be clear about how you want your business card to look. For example, if you want a simple card with a logo and text only, choose a related template.
In the screenshot below, you can see different pre-designed business card templates in Canva. Hover your mouse over any template, and you'll be able to see both the front and the back side of the template.
After finding the business card template that you want, click on it, and Canva will open that particular template in another window where you can edit it as per your requirements.
Step 3: Choose the Correct Size
The standard business card size is 3.5 × 2 inches (or 88.9 x 50.8 mm). The business cards in the template have a built-in standard size. Canva automatically uses this size, but you can confirm it under “Resize” in the toolbar.
To check the size of a business card, click on the three dots at the top-right of any template and select the 'Preview template' option. See the screenshot below.
A window will open, displaying all the features of the template along with the size of the business card. See the screenshot below.
To customize a business card template in Canva, click on the button - Customize this template (see the above screenshot).
Additional Tip: Keeping the standard size ensures your design fits most printers or printing services.
Step 4: Customize the Template
For this tutorial, I have chosen the following template. After selecting a template, you can easily change its logo and text. You can also apply a different color to your text and change the background color of the business card.
For example, to change the logo, you need to first select it and press the Delete button on your keyboard. Now, you'll need to upload your own logo.
Click on the Upload option from the left and choose your logo from your computer to upload it to Canva.
In the screenshot below, you can see that I have uploaded and added a logo to my business card design in Canva.
Similarly, you can change the pre-existing text on the design. Click on the text and add your own text. Simple!
For example, you can add the following to your business card:
- Your name and job title
- Your business name or logo
- Phone number, email address, and website
- Your social media handles (optional)
When I created my card for my blog, I also added a small tagline—“Helping You Grow Your Digital Brand”—to make it more memorable.
In the screenshot below, you can see that I have changed the text with my own business details. Click on the text boxes in the template to add your information. Enter your name, designation, and company name, website URL, and email address → change the font, color, or size.
You can also add your business phone number and social media handle.
Thus, in just four steps, you can easily create a business card in Canva.
Step 5: Download and Print or Share Digitally
- Once you are satisfied with your Canva business card design, you can save it.
- Click the Share button that appears on the top right corner → Download, or choose the preferred option ( copy link, manage access, or directly share)
- After clicking on Download → choose the file size → file type (PDF, PNG, JPG)
- Click on your preferred options and get your hands on a professional business card.
Below I have provided some additional tips that will help you make your business card in Canva look more professional and branded.
Additional Tips for Business Card Design
Tip 1: Add Branding Colors
Keep the colors of your business card balanced for a clean look. Ensure that your logo and text are prominent and easy to read. Try a different color contrast. Use your brand’s official colors and fonts to make your card instantly recognizable.
Additional Tips:
Choosing a clean sans-serif font will give your card a modern look, as popular brands mostly use it. Use a script or serif font for creative or boutique businesses.
Keep your name in a bold font and contact details in a lighter tone for better contrast. You can also bold or highlight the important information.
Tip 2: Add Icons or a QR Code
Canva business cards always come in double-sided (front and back). To make your business card more effective, you can add a QR code on the back or icons for phone, email, or social media. Small design elements can make a big difference in business card design.
In the screenshot below, you can see that I have added a QR Code for my website (trackers360.com). To add a QR Code, go to Apps and search for the term - QR Code generator and select the QR Code app as shown below. Now, add a URL for the QR Code. It could be your website address, social media pages, or YouTube channel.

Why and Where to Use Business Cards?
You can use business cards to promote your brand, share contact information quickly, or make a memorable first impression. Common scenarios include:
- Networking events or trade shows
- Client meetings or workshops
- Including them in product packages or shipping boxes
- Handing them out at local stores or cafés
- Sharing digital versions via email or social media
Even if you run an online business, having a digital version of your business card adds professionalism and consistency to your brand identity.
Tips for Creating a Perfect Business Card in Canva
Here are a few design tips I’ve learned from experience:
- Keep it simple. Don’t overcrowd your card with too many elements.
- Use legible fonts. Font size between 8pt–12pt works best for contact details.
- Use consistent branding. Stick to your brand colors and logo for a cohesive look.
- Add white space. It makes your design cleaner and easier to read.
- Highlight your name or logo. This is the first thing people notice.
- Use high-quality images. A pixelated logo can ruin your professional impression.
- Test print before ordering bulk. Always check alignment and color accuracy.
- Add a unique touch. QR code, slogan, or subtle pattern—something that represents you.
