| | March 21, 2024

In this article I will show you why it is important to submit your website to Google and how to submit your website to Google.

I assumed that you have completed the first step of setting up of your blog by

  • buying a top level domain name (.com or .org),
  • buying a hosting plan,
  • installing WordPress on your blog,
  • installing a premium theme which is light weight and
  • some important plugins like RankMath, UpdraftPlus, WPOptimize, etc.

And also last but not the least you have written some wonderful post and have made them live.

Though, it is not mandatory to submit your website to Google for indexing as it web crawlers will automatically crawl all your blog post and pages.

Even then it is a good practice to submit your website to Google as it helps you to track which blog post are driving more traffic to your blog or which keywords are getting more impression and traffic. You can also see stats related to your keywords position in Google search results.

Another reason is that if something goes wrong and your blog post are not indexed by Google then you can check for errors in Google Search Console and identify the issue.

Thus, always make it a habit to submit your website to Google.

Why it is important to submit your site to Google?

When you publish your website content it doesn't immediately shown in Google Search Result.

Google automatically crawl your website and index its contents. It is not mandatory to submit your site to Google because Google is a fully automated search engine that uses software known as "web crawlers" that explore the web on a regular basis to find sites to add to its index.

In fact, there are many websites which are not submitted to Google but still listed in search results as they were found and added automatically when Google's bots crawl the web.

You can check whether your blog has been indexed by Google or not. In Google.com page, type the following-

site: your blog name, for example, site: technicalwall.com

If your site has been indexed by Google then it will instantly show your blog's content in its result page.

However, if no content of your blog are shown then some investigation is needed to be done from your end. You blog may not be indexed by Google for the following three reasons.

  • You have just launched your blog and Google hasn't had time to crawl it yet.
  • The design of the site makes it difficult for Google to crawl its content effectively.
  • Google received an error when trying to crawl your site.

So, if Google has not yet crawled your blog or has received any error, now it's time for you to manually submit your blog or site to Google.

Thus, if you want Google to crawl and index your blog and its content immediately instead of waiting for the Google to index it automatically then please read on.

How to add your website in Google Search Console?

Before you can manually submit your site to Google and accelerate this process of indexing, you must add your site in Google Search Console.

To add your website, sign up for Google Search Console with your Gmail account.

In Google Search Console, select Add Property. Now, the following page will appear. Here, enter your domain name and select continue.

search console

On selecting the continue button, following dialog box appears.

txt record

Now to add TXT record to verify your domain, login into your cPanel and go to your DNS setting page.

For example, in a2hosting.com, you will find DNS setting page in Zone Editor, then click on Manage and select Add Record.

Here, you enter your domain name under Name option, leave TTL as it is with the default value, under Type select TXT, and under Record, paste the text which was copied from Google Search Console earlier and select Add Record.

Now, again go back to Google Search Console, here, again select your domain name and select Verify. If your site is not verified immediately please wait for few hours and check again.

That's it . Now, you have successfully verified your website.

How to submit your website's sitemap to Google?

Your site is now added in Google, now, it's time to add all the site's link related to post, pages, etc. to add in Google.

But how do to it?

To do this you must create a sitemap.

A sitemap is a file where you can list all the web pages of your site to tell Google and other search engines about the organization of your site content.

Search engine web crawlers like Googlebot read this file to more intelligently crawl your site and index all your contents.

There are many free website's on internet from where you can generate your sitemap. You can generate your sitemap from-

xml-sitemap.com or xmlsitemapgenerator.org

At the above site's enter the URL of your domain to create a sitemap. Wait few minutes your website's sitemap will be ready for download. Download it. A sitemap file of your site will look like this sitemap.xml.

In Google Search Console, on the left side of the pane, there you will find Sitemaps under Index (see the image given below).

Select Sitemaps, now you will be required to enter your sitemap url. If your blog name is example.com then your sitemap url will be

http://example.com/sitemap.xml

Google will immediately display a status message that the sitemap has been successfully submitted.

Now, Google will immediately crawl your sitemap file and start crawling and indexing all the links listed in the submitted sitemap file.
