How to Insert a Table in Canva?
Below I have mentioned multiple ways to add a table to a design in Canva. By following these step-by-step methods, you could easily insert tables like pricing charts, worksheets, timetables, features and more to your designs.
Let's check out each step one by one.
Step 1: Open Your Canva Project
First, you will need to log in to your Canva account. Go to the homepage of Canva through this link - Canva.com.
Next, choose a design such as presentation poster or info graphic wherever you want to insert the table or table chart.
For example, searched for the term - presentation, and press the Enter key as shown below.
Now, you can either select a pre-built template or start from scratch. I am going to select the option - Create a blank presentation (16:9). Please note that whichever option you choose, you will be able to easily insert a table to either of these designs.
After selecting the blank presentation, the design will be opened in the Canva editor where we will be able to insert tables, edit it and add data to the rows and columns of the table.
Step 2: Insert a Table in Canva
In Canva, there are different ways to add a tables or table charts to your designs. You can add a customized table chart of different colors, shapes, sizes, and designs. You can also add some table formats which are built-in Canva.
Let's see below some of the options for inserting a table in Canva.
Option A: Using the "Table" element
Click on the Elements tab on the left and search for the term - table, in the search bar as shown below. After entering the search term - table, press the Enter key.
After pressing the Enter key, you'll see lots of designs related to your search term. Click on the table design you like to add it to your design.
In the above screenshot, you can see that after clicking on a table, it was automatically added to the design.
After adding the table, you can resize, reposition and make changes to the table according to your requirement.
You can easily (1) edit these cells or (2) enter data to it by double-clicking on them. Also, you can use the top text toolbar to make changes in font and alignment.
To add more columns and rows (or delete columns or rows) in the selected table format, click on the three dots (...) icon that appears when you click on a row or column.
Now, you'll get the following options (See the below screenshot):
- Delete column: To delete columns from the table
- Delete row: To delete rows from the table
- Add column: To add columns to a table
- Add row: To add rows to a table
Option B: Using the "Chart" element
If you’re working with numbers or data, Canva’s chart feature can double as a table.
Click on the Elements tab on the left and search for the term - chart, in the search bar. After entering the search term - chart, press the Enter key.
After pressing the Enter key, you'll see lots of charts related to your search term such as bar, line, pie, or donut. Click on a chart to add it to your design. See the screenshot below.
Below you can see that I have added a chart to my design. To make changes to this table chart, click on the Edit button located at the top tool bar.
After clicking the Edit button, you change the values of the chart from the Data tab from the left panel (see the screenshot below). So, enter your information as per your need, and Canva will display it neatly inside the table.
From the toolbar, you can also change colors, fonts, and line styles to match your design.
Personal Tip: I once made a social media report for a client using this method. It was much faster to input data directly into the chart tool than building a table from scratch.
Step 3: Add Data to Your Table
Once you have designed the table, enter the data in each cell or text box to add content. Double click the cells and you'll be able to type the text directly or paste it in the cells.
You can change the font size, style and the color. In Canva you will find text tools to change font, size, and alignment. Enter the data in the table. Align the data in a sequence for better readability.
Step 4: Customize Your Table or Chart
In Canva you can customize your table or chart in different ways and give it a totally unique and customized look. You can perform following functions:
- Change the colors by using your brand palette.
- You can change the formatting by bold headers, alternating row colors, or highlight important columns.
- Add Icons and graphics to enhance readability by pairing data with visuals.
In the above screenshot, you can see all the options available to make customization to a chart. Similarly, you can make changes to the tables you've inserted to your Canva design.
Step 5: Save and Export
After finishing adding chart or table to a design, you can now download it your computer or share it with your clients or friends.
Click the Share button at the top-right and click on the Download option to save your design to your computer in the following formats - PNG, JPG, PDF Standard, or PDF Print.
