Collaboration is at the heart of design, and Canva makes it incredibly simple. One of the most useful features for teamwork is the comment tool.
Whether you’re working on a presentation, social media post, or infographic designs in Canva, comments help you share feedback, ask questions, and keep everyone on the same page.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through how to add comments in Canva, explain why they’re important, and share some personal tips from my own experience using Canva for team projects.
By the end, you’ll feel confident about inserting, editing, and managing comments in your designs.

What is a Comment in Canva?
A comment in Canva is a built-in feature that allows you (or your team members) to leave feedback directly on a design. Instead of explaining changes separately, you can simply click on an element and write your suggestion.
Thus, a comment in Canva is a note or feedback you can attach to a specific part of your design. Think of it as a sticky note inside your project. It doesn’t affect the design itself but helps communicate ideas, corrections, or suggestions.
It works just like comments in Google Docs — but inside your design.
Example:
- “Change this font to something more bold”
- “Can we use a brighter color here?”
- “Add logo on this corner”
How to Add Comments in Canva?
Step 1: Open Your Canva Design
Go to your Canva dashboard and open any design you are working on. In the screenshot below, you can see that I have open a design where I will show you to add comments.
Step 2: Select the Element and Open Comment Box
Click on the text, image, or graphic where you want to leave feedback. Next, add a comment using one of the following methods:
- Method 1: Right-click on the element and choose “Comment”, OR
- Method 2: Use the comment icon (speech bubble) in the top-right corner.
In the screenshot below, I have shown you Method 1. Select the element where you want to add a comment. In the below example, I have selected a text element. Now, right click on the text element, it will open a popup window. Here, click on Comment to add a comment.
Alternatively, you can click the 'Comment' icon after selecting any element. See the screenshot below.
After implementing any of the above two methods, a comment box will appear. Here, you can add your comments, mention your team member, add stickers or emoji, and open formatting options. See the screenshot below.
Step 3: Write Your Comment
In the Comment box, type your message like:
- “Increase font size here”
- “Change background color”
- “Align this properly”
You can also tag someone using @username.
Example: @Riya please update this section
In the above screenshot, you can see that I have typed a comment in the comment box. After entering the comment, click on the icon as shown above to post the comment.
After posting the comment, you'll see your comment as shown below.

Using Comments for Team Collaboration in Canva
If you are working with a team or clients, comments become extremely powerful.
How collaboration works:
- Share your design link

- You implement changes
- Mark comments as resolved
👉 In my experience, this is one of the best features when working on:
- Client projects
- Pinterest designs
- Ebook layouts
- Social media posts
Tips for Using Comments in Canva (Pro Tips)
Here are some practical tips that I personally use:
1. Be Clear and Specific
Instead of writing: ❌ “Fix this”, write: ✅ “Increase font size to 24px”
2. Use Tags Properly
Always tag the right person to avoid confusion.
3. Keep Comments Short
Short comments are easier to understand and act on.
4. Use Comments for Approval
You can ask: “Is this final?”, “Approved?”
5. Clean Up After Work
Delete or resolve comments after completing tasks.
Wrapping Up
Learning how to add comments in Canva can completely change the way you work on designs, especially if you collaborate with others. It makes communication simple, clear, and much faster.
So next time you’re working on a design, don’t just edit—use comments to guide, collaborate, and create smarter.
