In my earlier tutorial, I showed how to flip an image on Canva. While working with images in Canva Editor, you have a Flip button that allows you to easily flip an image horizontally or vertically.
However, if you're looking to flip text in Canva, there isn't a direct "flip text" button. So, you can't flip text like images. However, I’ve found a simple workaround that works perfectly.
In this quick, straightforward tutorial, I’ll show you how to flip text in Canva step by step. Let’s get started!

How to Flip Text in Canva?
Below, I have mentioned all the steps you need to follow to learn how to flip a text or mirror a text in Canva.
Step 1: Open Your Canva Design
Log in to your Canva account and open the design where you want to flip the text. You can also start with a new design if you're experimenting.
Personal Tip: I usually like to test design tricks on a blank canvas before adding them to my final design. Saves time and keeps things clean.
In the screenshot below, you can see that I have created a blank design.
After adding a design, we will add text to our design. To do that, we will click the Text tab on the left (see the image above). Check out Step 2 below to learn how to add text to a design.
Step 2: Add Your Text
To add text, click on the Text tab on the left. Now, click on Add a text box option to add a sample text to your design.
Replace the sample text with your text and apply formatting as per your requirement.
In the screenshot below, you can see that I have changed the sample text to "FLIP TEXT" and applied formatting like color and font size. After making the changes, I have positioned the text at the top of the design.
If you had an image in your design, you would have easily flipped it using the Flip button. But, while working with text, you will notice that when you select text, there is no Flip button.
Follow the next step (Step 3) to learn how we can flip or mirror text even without having the Flip button.
Step 3: Use Copy to Clipboard Feature
To flip text in Canva, we will use the Copy to Clipboard feature. First, you will need to select your text.
Now, click on the Share button located at the top right of the Canva dashboard. Then, click on See all (see the screenshot below.
Next, you'll see options available under Share. Here, click on the option - Copy to Clipboard.
Again click on Copy to clipboard.
Now, we will paste the copied text in our design. Right click inside the design and click on Paste. Or, you can also use the shortcut key - Ctrl + V on Windows OS to paste the text.
The copied text will be pasted into our design. But this isn't a text. It is pasted as an image. So, when we select it, we will also get the Flip button as shown in the screenshot below.
Now, we can easily flip this text as per our requirement.
Step 4: Flip Text in Canva
To flip the text, select the image and click on Flip button. Now, choose any one from the given option (Flip horizontal or Flip vertical) to flip the text.
In the below screenshot, you can see that I have flipped the image horizontally. Similarly, you can flip your text in Canva using the above method.
Tip: How to Mirror Text in Canva
Next in this tutorial, let's see how to mirror text using the flip button in Canva.
Select the pasted text and click on the Flip button. Now, click on Flip vertical to mirror the text as shown below.
Now, we will resize the text to match the original text to create a mirror effect.
Now, to make the mirror text look more pleasing, select it and click on Transparency button as highlighted below.
Now, reduce the transparency from 100 to anything like 30.
That's it, this is how we can mirror text in Canva.
Bonus Tips to Make It More Fun and Creative
Bonus Tips
- Add a Shadow or Reflection: Use Canva’s “Shadow” effect (under “Edit image”) to enhance the mirror illusion.
- Combine Regular & Flipped Text: Place original text above the flipped one to mimic a reflection, especially useful for water or glass effects.
- Play with Transparency: Lower the transparency of the flipped version to make it look more realistic and subtle.
- Use Cool Backgrounds: Try placing your mirrored text over water, metal, or futuristic digital designs—it really brings it to life.
Personal Experience
I first used this trick while designing a logo for a fictional perfume brand. I wanted a mirrored reflection of the brand name to give a luxurious, high-end look.
Canva didn’t have a direct option to flip text, and I was stuck—until I tried downloading the text as an image. It worked perfectly, and now I use this trick all the time!
This little hack has saved me tons of time, and it’s also helped me get creative with my layouts. Whether it’s for social media posts, branding, or even quirky quote designs, mirrored text can add an eye-catching twist.
Wrapping Up
While Canva doesn’t currently offer a built-in option to flip or mirror text directly, this easy workaround using the copy to clipboard feature gets the job done beautifully.
It’s a quick, creative trick that opens up so many design possibilities, especially when you’re looking to stand out.
