How to Create a Logo Using Canva AI
Step 1: Sign in to Canva
Before you can start designing, you’ll need to sign in to Canva. Head over to Canva.com and log in using your Google, Microsoft, or email account. If you don’t already have an account, creating one is free and only takes a minute.
Signing in is important because it saves your work automatically, so you don’t lose progress. It also gives you access to Canva’s AI tools, including the ai logo generator.
Think of this step as opening the door to your creative studio—once you’re inside, you’ll have everything you need to start designing.
Step 2: Open the AI Logo Maker
Visit this link to open the AI logo maker - Canva AI Logo Generator. Now, click on the 'Create a logo with AI' button.
This tool is specifically designed to help you create logos quickly using artificial intelligence. Instead of starting with a blank canvas, the AI gives you ready‑made ideas based on your input.
Opening the AI Logo Maker is like unlocking a shortcut—you don’t need to be a professional designer to get professional results. It sets the stage for creativity by giving you a smart assistant that understands your vision.
Step 3: Enter Your Prompt
This is where the magic happens.
Canva AI works by reading your text prompt and turning it into a design. Think of it as giving instructions to a designer. The more specific you are, the better the results.
For example, instead of saying “logo for a shop,” you could say “minimalist logo for a coffee shop with a steaming cup icon.”
The AI will then generate logos that match your description. Don’t worry if you’re not sure what to write—you can experiment with different prompts until you find something that feels right.
I have also given some example prompts later in this tutorial which you can use and try to create a logo using Canva AI.
Step 4: Choose a Style
Once you’ve entered your prompt, Canva AI will ask you to select a style.
Styles include minimalist, modern, playful, elegant, bold, vintage, and more.
Choosing a style helps the AI understand the mood and personality of your brand. For example, a law firm might go for an elegant or professional style, while a toy shop might choose playful and colorful.
In the screenshot above, you can see that after clicking on 'Style', you get lots of style to choose for your logo. Select anyone you like.
Think of style as the “tone of voice” of your logo—it communicates how people should feel when they see it. Take a moment to explore different styles and see which one fits your brand identity best.
Step 4: Choose Aspect Ratio
After selecting a style in the previous step, now, you'll need to choose an aspect ratio for your logo. Canva AI offers the following aspect ratio for your logo:
- 16:9
- 9:16
- 1:1
- 4:3
- 3:4
- 2:1
Choose any one aspect ratio for your logo. For example, if you want a square logo, choose 1:1 as the aspect ratio.
In the screenshot above, you can see that you need to click on the aspect ratio button and then choose the required ratio - 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, 4:3, 3:4 and 2:1.
Step 5: Generate Logo
Now it’s time to let Canva AI do the work. Click Generate, and within seconds, you’ll see multiple logo options based on your prompt and chosen style. This step is exciting because you get to see your ideas come to life instantly.
The AI usually provides several variations, so you can compare and decide which one feels closest to your vision.
Don’t worry if none of them are perfect—you’ll be able to edit and refine them later. Think of this step as brainstorming with a creative partner who gives you several sketches to choose from.
To generate a logo after entering your text prompt, style and aspect ration, you need to click on the generate button as shown in the image above.
After that Canva AI will create multiple logos based on your input. See the screenshot below. If you don't like the logos, you can try different prompt and style to generate the logo again.
Please note that you can also customize the generated logo to suit your requirement. Please check Step 6 for customization process.
Step 7: Download Your Logo
Once you’re happy with your design, it’s time to save it. Click the Download button in the top right corner. See the screenshot above.
Canva will give you options like PNG, JPG, or SVG. PNG is great for everyday use, while SVG is perfect if you need a scalable logo for printing or large displays. Make sure to save a copy in high resolution so it looks sharp everywhere.
You can also create different versions—like one with a transparent background for social media or one in black and white for documents. With your logo downloaded, you’re ready to use it anywhere.
Wrapping Up
Designing a logo no longer has to be complicated or expensive. Canva AI makes the process quick, creative, and accessible—even if you’ve never used design software before. By following the step‑by‑step guide, experimenting with prompts, and applying customization, you can create logos that truly represent your brand.
The cheat sheet and expanded prompts give you inspiration across industries, while the tips and common mistakes section help you avoid pitfalls.
Remember, Canva AI is a powerful assistant, but it’s not flawless—sometimes you’ll need to refine its suggestions to get the perfect result. With a little creativity and patience, you’ll be able to design logos that stand out, whether for yourself, your business, or your clients.
